Homage to Bosschaert, 13″ x 13″ x 2″, 2013

This is a sample of work done during my sabbatical in 2012-13. During this year, I was exploring new imagery and also thinking about symbolism embedded in this imagery. The Bosschaert homage was one of a series of explorations of Dutch Vanitas paintings (17th cent), where comments on the fleetingness of life and time were represented by fruit and flowers (often being eaten by insects), and more morbidly, dead birds, skulls and other interesting objects.

The other plates on this page are a series of still lifes using my own set of symbols and representing the variety of places I have moved to and from during my life and some studies on birds and other objects.
